Lady luck was on my side for the Gorse Hill wedding photography of Laura and Paul a few weeks ago at the Woking De Vere. As with my previous wedding here a year earlier, rain was forecast throughout the week leading up to the wedding and indeed even on the morning of the wedding itself we were told it would rain for most of the afternoon. However, although we weren’t blessed with a cloudless summer’s day, it did remain dry for most of the day and we didn’t have the washout we were fearing.
My first port of call meant a quick drive up the A3 to the bridal preps, Laura was getting ready with the bridesmaids at her parent’s house where there was the odd glass of champagne to calm the nerves. Then next up it was a trip back down the A3 and on to the church for the main event at the Edward the Confessor in Sutton Green. There was an anxious wait for Paul as the bridal party turned up a bit late, but everything went swimmingly and the ceremony took place without a hitch even if the newlyweds did then emerge from the church to the rainfall we’d been promised. Umbrellas were opened, confetti was thrown and then it was on to the nearby Gorse Hill De Vere for the reception. The weather was a bit kinder to us from hereon as things dried out, so we managed to get some shots from around the grounds and the guests were able to enjoy their welcome drinks outside.
The wedding breakfast and speeches were followed by the ceremonial cutting of the cake, but for once there was no first dance as such but some ceilidh dancing instead which proved to be very entertaining, although some of the dancing on show was pretty dubious to say the least. Must have been all the wine at dinner…
