The final wedding of my manic ‘summer’ saw me travel down to Farnham in Hampshire to be Imogen and Luke’s Cain Manor wedding photographer, which is a part of the Bijou hotels chain. I was looking forward to this one as Cain Manor was a new venue to me and I wasn’t disappointed, it proved to be a great end to the wedding season.
Bridal preparations were as relaxed as I’ve probably ever seen, with some slight nerves only starting to show once the dress was on and the clocked ticked ever nearer to the 2pm ceremony time. Relaxed probably isn’t what I’d use to describe Luke though who seemed to be pretty nervous (and a tad emotional) as his bride walked down the aisle. The ceremony was conducted in great spirits by the registrar and before long the business part of the day was concluded and the drinks were flowing.
I’ve been fairly lucky this year with only one complete washout back in April, despite all the rain we’ve had since. If I had any luck left to use up this year though, it was well and truly all used up here. It rained all the way down to the venue and it then proceeded to chuck it down all the way through bridal preps and I’d pretty much all but given up of seeing any sunshine. However, someone somewhere decided to give us a bit of a break and the sun came out by the time we emerged from the ceremony and it remained dry through until the wedding breakfast, at which point it changed to monsoon like conditions, culminating in the venue being struck by lightning and one of the windows being taken out by the following thunderbolt halfway through the meal!
The speeches took place before the food came out and following a few tears and a lot of laughter I took the opportunity to down tools and back up while everyone else ate. Then it was onto the evening part of proceedings and the first dance, shortly after which it was time for me to call it a day.
Another great bride and groom and another great day at work. As most wedding photographers will testify, it’s very hard work but very enjoyable and for me it’s been a long but fantastic summer. I’m now down to my final three weddings of the year and will be taking a much needed rest over the next three weeks to recharge the batteries before my next outing at Cannizaro House.
