This was quite simply a display of wedding greatness at its absolute best.
This past weekend I was lucky enough to be Louise and Brian’s wedding photographer at The Barn at Bury Court in Farnham, Surrey. I guess in a way it’s lucky the wedding even went ahead, given that Louise had the misfortune to find herself in a rowing boat with me in the middle of the Thames one rainy Wednesday evening a few weeks ago. The best man was there too, but he, so he tells me anyway, is a competent rower whereas I definitely prefer my feet on firm ground and haven’t been back in a boat since for reasons quite obvious to the three of us that were there.
So, on to the wedding. This was my first time at the Barn and I was looking forward to it for months. It didn’t disappoint, as wedding venues go this one is up there with the best of them. The girls were getting ready there before heading off to the ceremony at All Saint’s Church in nearby Crondall and the boys were in the pub a short walk from the church where Brian was settling the nerves with some last minute food. Then after the ceremony it was back to the Barn for the rest of the day.
Fast forward past the rainy intervals and quick formal shots that we managed to get and onto my (and I’m sure plenty of others) personal highlight of the day, and in fact possibly the highlight of any wedding I’ve covered. I knew what was coming as Louise and Brian had told me, but when they mentioned singing waiters I expected a bit of mediterranean opera. What we got was about twenty minutes of pure entertainment. I’m hoping to do a feature on these guys in more detail at a later date but basically what we got were two ‘waiters’ who spent a couple of hours blending in with the other staff, only then to burst into songs from the likes of Queen, Andy Williams and Frank Sinatra between the mains and desserts. Anyone looking for something different should definitely take a look at what they do on their website.
A part of the day I’d been looking forward to were the speeches, especially as I’d offered some assistance to Jamie, the best man, for the slideshow he was putting together in aid of his speech. Let’s just say I hope I never find myself in the situation where I’m taking photos of another man wearing a wedding dress in my bedroom again… It was all well worth it though and I’m sure everyone there will agree.
After the speeches we quickly escaped outside for another shot at some pictures of the couple, and then it was cake cutting and the first dance. That was it for me as I had the luxury of a Premier Inn booked for the evening as I had another wedding relatively nearby the following day, but I left everyone in great spirits as Jamie and Tom, who were also providing the evening’s entertainment with a boy band tribute, were in full flow.
All that’s left is to say a big thanks to Louise and Brian for having me there, I enjoyed every single moment of it.
